...Cornelia is one of the intensely picturesque town in the Cinque Terra region of Italy. The Cinque Terra (five lands) lies on cliffs rising from the Mediterranean Sea. They were completely isolated except by sea until the 1920s when a railway was built. A narrow road reached the area in the 1960s. The people of the towns traditionally earned their living by fishing, growing olives and lemons, and by viniculture. They produce a local wine made from grapes allowed to hang indoors before pressing.
...We just started hiking up to the cliffs when I took this picture. This storm passed to the south (right) and we stayed dry for the next few hours. Another storm soaked us with torrents of rain before we reached the next village, Manarola. (I carry my camera gear in a totally waterproof hard case.)
